The Gallery was established in 1983 in an historic landmark building. In 1994 the new contemporary gallery was designed and built in keeping with the small rural village setting. The owner and founder lives in Bungendore and 12 of our 13 staff are residents who are involved in many community activities. We are genuinely integrated into the fabric of Bungendore Village on every level.
Tourism Information in Gallery Foyer
The Gallery has been and still is the most significant driving force for the development of Bungendore Village as a tourist attraction. We serve as an unofficial visitor information centre, referring visitors to accommodation, other galleries, tourist attractions and services in the Village and surrounding region. The Gallery leads by example winning over 15 Tourism Awards.
Jazz rehearsal in Cafe Wood WorksWe benefit and respect the social and cultural fabric of Bungendore Village by making annual donations to charities, schools and sporting bodies on both a monetary and human resource basis. Residents are invited to exhibition openings and events such as jazz and classical music and community concerts, adding to cultural development and enjoyment. We further benefit the community by providing a world-class meeting place for residents to bring their friends and visitors and attend evening functions and concerts. Our 100-seat café/restaurant, Café Wood Works, is a venue for significant social gatherings. (eg weddings, cocktail parties, community groups, jazz and blues concerts and dramatic performances).
Bungendore Community Foundation Book
In 2005 the Gallery became a major supporter of the Bungendore Community Foundation, an entrepreneurial non-profit, volunteer driven foundation that is part of Greater Good. The group raises money within and from outside the Bungendore region community for investment purposes through the ACT Public Trustee with annual interest distributed to various community projects and individual needs for those suffering hardship or disability. The Foundation also supports other community groups, artistic and community events.
