STOP PRESS: TESS WAS AWARDED SECOND PRIZE OF $2000 IN THE YOUTH ART SECTION FOR EMERGING ARTISTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16 AND 25 AT THE JUDGING HELD ON THURSDAY 16TH JULY Tess Barker, Customer Service Representative and recent exhibitor at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, has been accepted by the South Australian Museum as a finalist for the 2010 Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize. This is the richest natural history prize in Australia, encompassing sections dedicated to works on paper, sculpture, painting, and since 2009, the youth art prize, in which Tess is a finalist. Her framed linocut print, Protea: New and Spent Bud, was recently hung in the galleries Octagon Artspace as part of the "NEW" - 5 artists new to the Gallery exhibition (see Past Exhibitions). It’s encouraging to see the progression Tess has made in recent years after attaining her Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Fine arts at the University of Newcastle (2008), to contributing to the Bungendore team by assisting in the curatorial aspects of exhibitions and fine art related inquiries. The exhibition winners will be announced on July 16. We wish Tess every success.

Sat 22/05/2010 It was around 11:30am on a chilly Saturday morning when one of the gallery’s Customer Service representatives thought she saw a very familiar face perusing the items in the gallery. About ten minutes later the lady returned with an even more familiar face, one that we see on the news daily. Mrs and Mr Kevin Rudd entered the gallery, with a multitude of onlookers in tow. They stayed for 20 minutes and Prime Minister Rudd bought a range of business card boxes and a beautifully polished yin-yang candle holder. Another staff member informed the Café Wood Works staff that the Prime Minister was visiting. Something went wrong in the communication lines, as one of the waitresses thought that John Howard was here! After he left, things quietened down and we had a very funny chat with a customer who bought a flip top box that Mr Rudd had only moments ago touched. This was to be a present for his secretary, and he promised not to touch it where the PM had caressed the timber. | ||
