Not content with the quiet life, singer song-writer Alex Gibson has toured across Australian cities a number of times in the last few years.

Alex is very much the Bungendore Local growing up in Canberra and through his early teens and particularly at his parent’s property Wattle Hill on the edge of  Bungendore.

Moving from Bungendore to Sydney in his late teens, Alex has established a loyal fan base through his regular commitment to busking and gigs – both his own and supporting touring artists such as Diesel, The Black Sorrows, Kate Cebrano, Deni Hines and recently Uncle Jed and more.

He describes his style as “a mix between Folk, Soul, Blues, Jazz and Rock – a strange mix…part of that is down to the diverse range of characters I have in my band. My drummer is Chilean and my percussionist is Mauritian. My bass player loves Funk and Soul and my piano player is really into Jazz! That explains part of it, how we express songs I have written as a band.”

From captivating busking audiences to national audiences, Alex took to WIN Televisions’s THE VOICE stage in 2013, chosen for team SEAL and successfully reaching the final 12 in the live shows, praised for his distinctive tones and original approach.

Now completely submersing himself into his original music, Alex is living and breathing what he loves best – performing."

Having honed his skills busking in the streets of Sydney, Alex Gibson has a sound that is at once sweet and sultry, and absolutely heartfelt. Inspired by artists like Paul Simon, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder, his music is extremely melodic, soulful and energetic. In 2011, he went into the studio and recorded a live album This is Life with his band. After cutting his teeth opening for artists like The Black Sorrows and Mental As Anything, as well as playing countless shows of his own at events like Vivid and Market By Moonlight, or venues like The Brass Monkey and Lizotte's, he launched the album to acclaim at Sydney’s famous Basement Night Club, for many years home to Galapagos Duck, in August 2012.

Alex says of his music and lifestyle

"The life of a full time musician is vast and varied and every day has it’s challenges and it’s rewards."

"One day you’re busking in the streets with 5 Umbrellas strapped to your gear to protect it from the rain… the next day you might be playing to 5 people at a smokey bar in the corner… the next day you might be playing your original music at an event in front of thousands of people or being interviewed for a radio or TV segment. It certainly has turbulence but at least it’s always interesting."

Enjoy the spring weather, the BBQ’s and hopefully I’ll see you at Café Wood Works on Saturday November 15.

Alex Gibson’s CD ‘This is Life’ is a collection of songs written by Alex chronicling his life journey and experience so far. The album was recorded at Studios 301 Sydney and Crash Symphony Productions. It was Produced by James Englund and Mastered at Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi.
